Jersey leaders have announced an unusual job vacancy for maintaining and repairing the island's 800 wooden benches, according to the States.
Each bench owned by the States has a unique identification code. The States revealed plans to launch a four-year rolling contract from 2025 to 2028, during which the chosen candidate will be responsible for inspecting the wood and metal components and refurbishing them as needed.
The role involves checking the timbers, steel structures, paintwork, and all fixings, including the bolts that anchor the benches to the ground.
The Government of Jersey stated that the successful applicant would also be required to log all inspected benches using a "government QR code affixed to each bench."
Annually, 220 benches identified as being "in the worst state of repair" will undergo refurbishment.
The work will include cleaning, sanding down the timber slats, applying two coats of stain, sanding the ironwork, and applying one coat of metal paint.
