The public is invited to participate in a debate in Jersey's States Chamber.
The People's Debate will focus on how ambitious Jersey should be in pursuing a net-zero carbon emissions target and what lifestyle and legislative changes are needed to achieve it.
Sir Timothy Le Cocq, the Bailiff of Jersey, will preside over the debate, which is part of Jersey's fifth annual Democracy Week.
Scheduled for Saturday, 28 September, the event aims to inspire people to consider running for election in 2026. Participants will have the chance to deliver speeches and vote on the debate's outcome, mirroring the format of States Assembly meetings.
Although the votes will not lead to immediate policy changes, the debate is designed to offer islanders a glimpse into the political decision-making process.
Sir Timothy emphasized, "The People’s Debate is a unique opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a states member for a day. I encourage anyone curious about how decisions are made in Jersey to apply." He added, "Our democracy is strongest when all voices are heard."
The debate will be streamed on the States Assembly website, and the public gallery will be open for viewing.
Applications to participate can be submitted via the States Assembly website, with paper forms available at Morier House. The application deadline is Wednesday, 4 September.
