Parents of children who are in their final year at a Government of Jersey primary school are being sent details next week to confirm their child has a place at a secondary school.
On Friday, 22 January parents will receive an email from the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES). Pupils will usually be offered a place at their catchment school – Grainville, Haute Vallée, Le Rocquier or Les Quennevais. Parents only need to act if they want to request a place at a different Government of Jersey secondary school.
If parents choose to request a different secondary school, they need to complete the online form on the Government of Jersey website - the website link will be provided in the email. The deadline to complete the online form is Friday 12 February. These requests are considered by CYPES, and parents will be informed of decisions towards the end of February. If necessary, there is an appeals process. Appeal hearings will be held towards the end of March.
If children are currently in a fee-paying primary school, parents will not routinely be offered a place in one of the Government of Jersey secondary schools. If they wish their child to go to Grainville, Haute Vallée, Le Rocquier or Les Quennevais, they need to complete the online school admission form online.
Additionally, to avoid duplication, parents will not be offered a place at a Government of Jersey secondary school if they have accepted a place in a fee-paying secondary school. If parents are offered a place at a Government of Jersey secondary school but have also accepted a place in the fee-paying sector, they must inform CYPES.
Parents can find out their catchment school by looking at the online catchment map or by contacting CYPES.
