A Jersey RNLI crew had to abruptly halt a planned training session when a real-life emergency unfolded right before them.
St Catherine RNLI reported that their crew was preparing to launch their boat for a Sunday morning exercise when they observed "unusual activity" on the slipway at Little St Catherine's.
Upon investigation, the crew discovered a boy who had fallen into shallow water and was in distress, according to the RNLI.
Although the boy managed to pull himself back onto the beach, he had injured his legs, prompting the crew to call for an ambulance due to concerns about the severity of his injuries.
A local doctor who happened to be nearby also assisted in assessing the boy, the crew noted.
Elwyn Dop, the inshore lifeboat helm, commented on the situation: "Given the proximity to the lifeboat station and the fact that we were about to launch, our casualty-care trained crew were able to respond very quickly.
"Our volunteer crew members maintain their casualty care qualifications and regularly refresh these skills, so we were well-prepared to assess and care for the casualty while awaiting paramedic support."
Mr. Dop also expressed gratitude to the members of the public who assisted during the incident.
