Police launch investigation into suspected spiking involving chewing gum.

The States of Jersey Police are investigating a suspected case of spiking involving chewing gum after a man was hospitalised.

The man shared on social media that he was given the gum by a stranger on Friday night in Jersey, after which he became unwell. This is the first time officers have encountered a report of this nature. Police have advised the public to avoid accepting drinks or food from strangers during nights out. The force emphasised: “When out with friends, stay together, stay alert, and plan your journey home in advance.

“If you suspect you’ve been given a substance and start feeling unwell or unusual, seek help immediately from a friend or staff member and go to the hospital.

“Report the incident to the police, and in an emergency, always call 999.”
