A new support group has been created to offer a safe, inclusive, and non-competitive space for teenage girls to run together.
"See Her Run" is a Jersey-based initiative designed for girls in school years 10 to 13, aiming to encourage them to take up running. The group is open to those who have completed Jersey Sport’s Couch to 5k program or any girl interested in running for at least 30 minutes, regardless of pace.
Group founder Ceri Tinley explained that See Her Run is focused on motivating girls to run twice a week while enjoying each other’s company. The group was established after successfully securing the Jersey Support in Sport Grant and will be managed by a team of volunteers, all of whom are either passionate runners or qualified run leaders certified by British Athletics.
Offering a new option Mrs. Tinley noted, “While Jersey has many running clubs for adults, the options available for younger runners are mostly competitive. We want to offer something different for teenage girls who might not be interested in competitive running. Our goal is to remove any barriers to running and regular exercise."
Additionally, the group plans to provide training for female runners aged 18-25 who wish to become qualified leaders and help lead the weekly sessions. Membership is free, and those interested can join the group, which meets twice a week at Freedom Tree, St Helier. The sessions will take place at 16:30 on Tuesdays and 17:00 on Thursdays, starting from 17 September.
