New Ports fund provides financial boost to charities

Ports of Jersey has awarded nearly £10,000 to three local charities through a funding initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life on the Island.

Freeda (formerly Jersey Women’s Refuge), Air Rescue Channel Islands, and Jersey Recovery College were among the recipients of this funding. Launched in April, the Community Boost scheme is designed to support projects that contribute to making Jersey a better place to live and work.

The first phase of the scheme received 13 applications, with nine meeting the criteria for "digital innovation."

Each application was carefully evaluated by a selection panel, according to Ports.

Sophie Roffe, Ports’ head of sustainability and community value, expressed enthusiasm about the projects supported through the first tranche of Community Boost funding, which focused on digital innovation for sustainability and community wellbeing.

"We created Community Boost to take a targeted approach and support projects that will have a significant and long-term impact on our Island, and these projects truly align with this vision," Roffe said.

Ports of Jersey announced that future funding rounds will prioritize environmental sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion, community wellbeing, and education.

Charities with a focus on these areas are encouraged to apply via the Ports of Jersey website.

Previous applicants whose projects align with these themes will automatically be considered in the next round of funding.
