More than a thousand Jersey children shape Children's Commissioner policies

Over 1,000 Jersey children have voiced their opinions on the support they want to see for young people on the island.

These insights were gathered through a consultation held between April and June 2024. Over 1,000 children participated in the survey, while representatives from the Office of the Children's Commissioner for Jersey visited 16 schools, engaging with an additional 300 students. The feedback collected has been instrumental in shaping Children's Commissioner Dr. Carmel Corrigan's four-year strategic plan.

Dr. Corrigan highlighted key concerns raised by the children:

"A lack of play and leisure facilities, especially during the winter months, and particularly indoor options. "They also spoke extensively about the cost of living in Jersey and issues related to poverty. "Education and their experiences in school, mental health, and delays in accessing mental health services were also major topics of concern."
