Minister wants Opera House to open by Easter 2025

A Jersey minister has expressed the government's strong desire to have the island's refurbished Opera House ready for its first shows by Easter 2025. The Grade II listed building is set to receive a new roof and interior as part of a restoration project, with the government allocating £11.5 million for the work.

The Opera House, which closed in March 2020, was initially scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2022. However, the plans were postponed due to the renovation's complexity.

Economics Minister Kirsten Morel expressed optimism that audiences could return "in just under a year's time."

"Many factors could still affect the timeline between now and the completion date," he acknowledged. "Nevertheless, I have communicated to the Opera House that we are eager to see the first shows here by Easter next year."
