King and Queen Brave Rain to Greet Islanders

Despite strong winds and rain, crowds in Jersey gathered to catch a glimpse of King Charles III and Queen Camilla during their first visit to the island since the King's coronation.

Upon arrival, the royal couple was greeted with a 21-gun salute by Jersey's 1781 Militia at People's Park before attending a special session of the States and Royal Court.

They then explored a Jersey expo at Weighbridge Place, learning about local producers, businesses, and the island's progress toward net zero.

King Charles and Queen Camilla received gifts, including seven Jersey cows and locally-laid duck eggs. The crowds warmly welcomed the King and Queen to Jersey.

King Charles also presented new King's Colours to the Jersey Sea Cadets in honor of their 75th anniversary, followed by a parade featuring local military groups, scouts and guides, emergency services, and others. The couple participated in several walkabouts to meet islanders who had come out to greet them.

The King and Queen will stay on the island overnight before heading to Guernsey on Tuesday, marking the first time a British monarch has slept on the island in over 350 years. Despite the rain drenching the thousands who came to see the royals, it did not dampen their spirits.

Carmen, 11, shared her excitement, saying she was "waving really fast" and the rain "made it more memorable." She added, "I was laughing - it doesn't happen every day you can see the King." Carmen also had a message for the royal couple: "Thank you for coming, you made everyone really happy and I see smiles everywhere."
