Supporters of Jersey's Havre des Pas bathing pool recently visited a similar facility in Guernsey to gather ideas for its enhancement.
Among the four supporters was St Helier South Deputy David Warr, who toured the La Valette bathing pools in Guernsey, which underwent refurbishment in 2022.
A charitable trust, funded by the States of Guernsey, spearheaded La Valette's redevelopment, leading to an architectural award after its reopening.
Mr. Warr expressed hope that a similar partnership could be established to manage Jersey’s pool.
"Incredible Potential"
He stated, "I visited Guernsey to study how they revitalized their La Valette public pool, which, like Havre des Pas, was built in the same era. There's certainly enthusiasm here to bring such an extraordinary facility back to life."
In July, it was revealed that £356,000 of the £553,051 spent on government-owned café sites over the past three-and-a-half years was allocated to maintaining the Havre des Pas pool in St Helier.
In June, Constable Andy Jehan, Minister for Infrastructure, described the 135-year-old pool as "a liability" and expressed a desire to have it "taken off my hands."
Mr. Warr highlighted specific areas for improvement at Havre des Pas, such as adding bike parking and modernizing the changing rooms.
He added, "La Valette is a well-maintained facility that has been thoughtfully developed in collaboration with the community, resulting in something truly impressive. With a similar vision, I believe we can achieve the same success here in Jersey."
