The organisation promoting judo in Jersey has expressed its enthusiasm for a new sports facility in St Helier.
The government has commenced construction on an £8.4 million sports hall at Oakfield, which will include a dedicated space for sports like judo. Tony Palmer, a representative of Jersey Judo, the governing body for the sport on the island, described the new facilities as “fantastic” for athletes. With over 35 years of involvement in Jersey Judo, Mr. Palmer believes the Oakfield development will attract more people to the sport. He highlighted that the new facility features a sprung floor, making it more comfortable for participants to practice throws compared to the current facilities at Fort Regent.
Mr. Palmer also mentioned that Judo will be included in the upcoming Island Games in the Faroe Islands, and they are eager to prepare thoroughly for the competition.
Jersey Judo will be launching new classes for children under eight at Communicare starting September 19. Mr. Palmer, who has been nominated for the BBC Radio Jersey Make a Difference Awards for his contributions to the sport, continues to make a significant impact.
