Music created by prisoners in Jersey will be showcased at a listening party during an art exhibition.
The Moving Arts Collective, a group of artists, writers, and performers, is organizing the event at Capital House in St Helier on Thursday to debut a new album produced with inmates from La Moye prison. The album, titled H.M.P His Music Productions, features a variety of genres, including rap, disco, drill, rock, acoustic, and drum and bass.
The listening party will run from 18:00 to 19:30 BST as part of Art House Jersey's Inside Out exhibition.
A previous private event at the prison in May marked the album's initial launch. The inmates collaborated with professional musicians Thabo Mkwananzi and Fred Harper from Finding Rhythms, and Esther Rose Parkes from the Moving Arts Collective, to create the album.
Prison governor Susie Richardson highlighted the positive impact of the project, noting, “The confidence-building, emotional expression, and relationships formed between participants and facilitators have been remarkable."
The album is available on Spotify and Bandcamp.
