A Jersey charity has estimated it helped 230 children go to the traveling funfair in People’s Park for free.
Variety Jersey said it worked with the Funtazia Travelling Theme Park to open the site for families who may otherwise not be able to attend. The site was closed to the general public and music levels were lowered between 12:00 BST and 14:00 on Tuesday. The charity said some of the children may not have been able to have gone to the funfair without this support.
Jeanette Pinel, from Variety Jersey, said the event had been a big success.
She said it was a “really exciting day for the children” and the charity was “so grateful” to the funfair management for allowing it to go ahead. “These are children who might probably would not be able to come, and parents do tell us that is the case, so it is really lovely,” Ms Pinel added. Variety Jersey also provided lunches for the families who attended.
Lorraine Connor was one of the parents who took her children, who are on the autism spectrum, to the funfair. She said it was an “easier environment” for her children to enjoy and it was a “really good atmosphere”. Ms Connor added: “There are other people who are also neurodiverse and have different learning challenges, so it just feels a bit like a more of a community event where everyone knows why we are all here together.”
