Get your Vitamin Sea

There are just a few weeks to go until islanders take to the sea for the first of their annual 30 Bays in 30 Days swims.

30 Bays in 30 Days is now firmly established in the island’s calendar and is open to Islanders of all ages who want to get outdoors and enjoy Jersey’s beautiful beaches, while also raising money for two loved, local charities: Last year the fundraiser raised £26,000 which was split between The National Trust for Jersey and Jersey Hospice Care. Nearly 700 people took part in the sea swimming event which is fast becoming an annual tradition, and we hope that even more will take part this year.

Participants are being encouraged to swim 30 strokes in 30 bays around the Island and enjoy their stunning surroundings and appreciate the benefits of sea bathing. For those who don’t wish to go that far, there is also the option to visit their closest or their favourite bay 30 times and swim their 30 strokes there.

After restrictions imposed as a result of COVID-19 prevented the traditional opening and closing swims in 2020, the organisers are hopeful that these will be arranged again this year. Information on where and when these will take place will be announced nearer the time as restrictions in place at the time are reviewed. All those taking part are once again being encouraged to take photos or make short videos of their swims, and share these with the wider community through the 30 Bays Facebook page. After all, while this event is about raising money for two great causes, it’s also all about creating great memories and making the most of the Jersey summer..

Katrina Hancock, Director of Income Generation at Jersey Hospice Care, said “This is such a great event that gets everyone out and about, exploring the Island, and swimming in the sea. My children loved taking part last year and found bays we’d never visited before. I would encourage everyone to get involved, whether you’ve been doing it for years or this is your first time – it’s a great way to enjoy our Island home and raise vital funds for two really important local charities.”

Donna Le Marrec, Marketing and Events Manager at the National Trust for Jersey, said ‘We hope as many people as possible will take part and enjoy the 30 Bays in 30 Days challenge. Please do not be put off if you think that you cannot complete the challenge in July, we encourage you to continue in August or just swim in your favourite bay as many times as you can’.

The event is generously supported by Network Insurance & Financial Planning, The Potting Shed, Fuse 2 and Mitchell Building Contractors.
