A scheme allowing French day-trippers to enter the Bailiwick using only identity cards has been extended through the end of the 2025 summer season.
This extension follows joint discussions between the States and the UK government.
Although the scheme had been extended before, the States noted that it is unlikely to continue beyond September 2025. A full Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system is expected to be implemented by the end of next year, requiring non-visa nationals traveling within the Common Travel Area to provide passport details.
Deputy Rob Prow, President of the Committee for Home Affairs, stated: "Originally introduced for the summer of 2023, this scheme has clearly benefited local businesses by allowing French visitors to make day trips to the Bailiwick. While it’s unlikely to continue after the ETA system is in place, the new system will enhance the security of the Common Travel Area, including the Bailiwick."
