Durrell presents the Investec Jewels of Assam ball

Durrell is delighted to announce the Investec Jewels of Assam Ball will take place at the Royal Jersey Showground on Saturday 18th September 2021.

Kindly sponsored by Investec, the Jewels of Assam ball is a celebration of Durrell’s commitment, spanning five decades, to rewilding the grasslands of Assam in northern India.

This spectacular evening will shine a light on Durrell’s project in India where the Trust is dedicated to saving the world’s smallest pig – the pygmy hog. Durrell’s rewilding approach has helped to drive the restoration of India’s precious Assamese grasslands, which are also home to species such as tigers, elephants, rhinos, and water buffaloes.

Jewels of Assam promises to be a show-stopping evening that will immerse guests in the exotic sights and sounds of India and celebrate the richness of this precious ecosystem. A whole evening of entertainment will unfold, including an exclusive live performance from internationally acclaimed Ronan Keating as well as other exciting acts never seen in Jersey.

Dr Lesley Dickie, Chief Executive of Durrell, said: “The Investec Jewels of Assam ball will be a colourful and uplifting evening to celebrate 50 years of our work in Assam. We will transform the showground to bring the incredible Indian wilderness to life. At a time when India faces huge challenges, our work protecting this beautiful ecosystem and supporting the people that live there is more important than ever.

We are so grateful to Investec for their ongoing support following on from the success of the Rainforest Ball in 2017 and the Wilderness Ball in 2019.”

Commenting on their sponsorship, Brendan Stewart from Investec said: “Durrell is one of our long-term key partners in Jersey. Their values very much align with our own; we are driven by a desire to live in society, and not off it. At the heart of our values at Investec is the intention to make a meaningful contribution to the world we live in. Therefore, we are delighted to be supporting the bi-annual ball again. This year’s Investec Jewels of Assam Ball promises to be the most spectacular evening yet, bringing an amazing experience of the sights and sounds of India to Jersey.”

A limited number of tables of ten are available at a cost of £5,000.
