Demolition of hospital buildings almost complete

The demolition of unused healthcare buildings in Jersey is nearing completion, according to the government.

In its annual health and community service plan, the government reported that demolition work at the Overdale site was "proceeding well."

The project, which began in December 2023, is set to be finished by September, clearing the way for the construction of the new acute hospital.

The planned hospital will feature critical and emergency care, women’s and children’s services, a renal unit, and the majority of inpatient wards.

The government highlighted the deteriorating condition of current healthcare facilities, which poses a "considerable risk" to the delivery of acute health and care services.

The 2024 report, covering progress from January to June, confirmed that demolition at Overdale is "on track" for completion by the end of September, with the planning application for the hospital’s revised development plans also on schedule.

The report noted that the planning application is complex, requiring multiple inputs, but remains on track for submission in September 2024.
