Community centre launches pay it forward scheme

A charity in Jersey has launched a "pay it forward" initiative at its recently established Community Centre in St Helier.

Under the scheme a selection of drinks and meals can be purchased via the Jersey Cheshire Home (JCH) website, which can then be claimed by visitors to the centre.

It has been kickstarted by funding from Jersey Freemasons and the St Helier Community Fund.

The charity said every contribution would help those in need whether it was a simple gesture of buying a coffee for a stranger or treating someone to a nourishing meal.

Donna Abel CEO at Jersey Cheshire Home said: "We're really happy to launch our "pay it forward" initiative.

"This is a discreet and dignified way of receiving help and support and by embracing this idea, individuals have the opportunity to make a real difference to the day to day lives of others.

"You never know what difficulties people are facing and there is a big increase in food poverty, so we are thrilled to be in a position to enable others to help."

People who wish to give can visit the JCH Community Centre website, external and select from a range of drinks and hot and cold snacks to gift to a stranger.
