Beaches Pose Danger as Dog Walkers Warned of Fish Hooks Left Behind

The animal shelter has issued a warning to dog owners about the dangers of discarded fish hooks.

The JSPCA advised Islanders not to attempt removing a fish hook if their dog ingests one. Instead, they should contact their vet immediately.

This warning follows a social media post on Tuesday from an Islander who reported that a dog was “fighting for its life” after swallowing several fish hooks near Seymour Slip the previous day.

It is advised, if an owner suspects their dog has swallowed a fish hook or any other harmful object, they should contact their vet as soon as possible and do not try to attempt removing the hook yourself. This is advice from JSPCA.

The JSPCA's emergency number is 07797 720331.
