Jersey's Environment Minister, Deputy Steve Luce, has postponed plans to improve St Brelade's Bay due to the project's length and cost.
In a letter to a scrutiny panel, Luce outlined several projects that had to be paused or cancelled. He explained that the St Brelade scheme would have required an extended design and consultation phase, followed by more debate in the States. As a result, it was dropped in favour of quicker, more affordable projects.
Deputy Moz Scott, who has led efforts to improve the bay, called the delay "crushing." Luce acknowledged that budget cuts across all departments forced tough decisions, adding that with only two years until the next election, some projects had to be put on hold.
Scott expressed frustration, saying the slow political process made it feel like "pushing a boulder up a hill." Other delayed projects include laws on nuisance, unlawful public entertainments, and pollution from building sites.
