Battle chairman Russell Labey expressed his desire for island businesses to sponsor key aspects of the event, such as the stage and trains. Despite an increase in government grant funding, several competitors told the BBC they had not received extra financial support for the 2024 Battle of Flowers.
Mr. Labey noted that "negotiations with the government are under way" to secure guaranteed payments for exhibitors to help them participate in the parade.
“When I took office, my first priority was securing exhibitors a 10% increase in the guaranteed payment from the government to join the parade. I aim to do that again as soon as possible,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of this investment, adding, "It was absolutely vital this year, and I believe it’s appropriate for governments to invest in national joy."
Mr. Labey also highlighted his "good relationship" with the government’s economic development team, who have been "very encouraging and supportive" of the event.
