Appeal for Young People to Join Consumer Watchdog

Young people are being encouraged to volunteer for Jersey's consumer watchdog.

The Jersey Consumer Council (JCC) aims to recruit individuals with a variety of skills, including secretarial, digital, and social media expertise, to help "improve the lives of consumers."

While welcoming volunteers of all ages, the JCC is "particularly keen" to attract islanders in their 20s and 30s, as this demographic is "currently under-represented in the organization."

JCC chairman Carl Walker stated that new recruits would assist all islanders.

"As the cost of living crisis continues to bite hard, we want to increase our membership so that we can help as many islanders as possible," he said.

"From price checking and researching products, to providing feedback on new government policies and assisting consumers with everyday issues, a role on our council is as varied as it is rewarding." The JCC also plans to recruit a separate team of volunteer data researchers to help expand its price comparison service.
