'Abandoned' fishing gear cleared from Jersey beach during community cleanup

Families and children in Jersey participated in a community beach cleanup on August 31.

The event, organized by the non-profit organization Littlefeet Environmental, takes place every two weeks, with today's cleanup held at L'Etacq in the northwest of the island.

Participants collected rubbish and debris from the beach, with Andy Farmer, the organiser of the event, telling said, "Unfortunately, about 90% of what we find is discarded fishing gear—bits of nets, lobster pots, and similar items. We also find a lot of debris from the local oyster fisheries."

Andy also noted that it was encouraging to see parents bringing their young children along to help clean up the beach.
